That's why, since its founding, the company has been committed to green manufacturing based on recycling existing waste and converting it into new quality products. Today, this closed-loop environmentally friendly manufacturing cycle is a fact, a major advantage and argument for a number of global companies to choose Poligroup as their contractor. Since its incorporation, the company has recycled ~100 thousand tons of waste, using energy from its own PV plant for the continuous workflow.

Innovative closed-loop manufacturing system

The core of the sustainable practices implemented in Poligroup’s manufacturing facilities form three main closed loops. Their combined performance is crucial and places the company at the forefront of the industry, ensuring environmentally friendly production of polyethylene products in Europe.

1. Complete closed loop

Company’s philosophy that Nothing is Lost, Everything is Transformed is embodied in an innovative closed loop manufacturing system. It starts with the procurement of waste raw materials, which go through the stages of recycling, extrusion, and conversion, and all these steps are powered by green energy. The manufacturing process is almost entirely waste-free, including the use of the company's own process-generated waste as raw material. Once it has served its purpose and is no longer usable, the end product potentially returns to the beginning of the cycle as raw material again.

This process of minimizing waste at every level and turning waste materials back into valuable resources not only optimizes the use of raw materials, but also ensures that Poligroup’s products are fully recyclable and fit fully into the circular economy. Using seemingly useless and polluting waste for new quality goods – this is the future of many industries and the company is working fully within this environmental trend, which is increasingly established and forthcoming as a standard worldwide.

2. Water cycle with resource reuse

In continuation of its mission to work in the aspect of maximum respect for nature, Poligroup has integrated two water treatment plants into its production that minimize the use of fresh water in recycling. Through the multiple water treatment provided by these facilities, the consumption of new quantities of this valuable resource is optimally reduced.

3. Own process waste is converted into raw material

The third and final closed loop, part of Poligroup’s operating practices, is related to the use of the own waste products invariably generated during the various stages of operation. All this technological waste is collected and recycled, taking its own place in the new production and becoming part of the process of making new quality products – polyethylene packaging for all kinds of industries, businesses, and enterprises. The waste coming in from outside companies and the company's own operations finds a new life, thus Poligroup helps recycling processes worldwide without encouraging new polluting manufacturing processes.

For Poligroup, sustainability also means continuing to care for the environment by using clean energy to further reduce our carbon footprint. That’s why, in 2022, the company is invested in its own PV plant that powers manufacturing operations with independently sourced renewable energy. The investment is a logical step for the visionary enterprise and, while requiring a large capital investment, is already a reality and has a number of benefits including for the general public. The first phase of the PV plant is complete, operational and generates 7.88 GWh of energy annually, of which 31% is used in the manufacturing process and the rest is sold on the open market. Annually, the amount of renewable energy produced will reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 1200 tons in the territory of Asenovgrad, where the manufacturing facilities are located. This major step further underlines the company's commitment to following an optimally clean and green business model.
