Poligroup History
Poligroup Ltd. launched its business operations in 1999 as a trading company offering polyethylene solutions for the protection of the Bulgarian agricultural sector produce with a focus on tobacco producing regions. Sales volumes grew significantly in a very short time. The company's management used the accumulated potential for development by developing a small production facility with two extrusion lines alongside the seasonal trade. The investment allowed the start of in-house production of polyethylene products for existing counterparties, as well as expanding the range and covering more markets.
As work volumes and contract partnerships increased, the demand grew and a larger production facility was built. Expanding its scope of business operations, the company successfully entered the industrial, packing, and bag manufacturing sectors. This required further significant investment in new process equipment, including extruders and conversion machines. At the end of the period was launched construction of its own large-scale production facility marking the beginning of a new stage in the company's development.
2007 – 2012
In 2007, Poligroup Ltd. had its own advanced production facility and an administrative building attached to it, where all the company operations were carried out. The manufacturing capacity and the capabilities of the product range were significantly expanded thanks to the investment in new Chinese and second-hand European plant and equipment. A strategic decision was taken to discontinue trading and distribution operations in favor of focusing on manufacturing. This resulted in a significant increase in market share both domestically and at European level. Key partnerships with traders and manufacturers have been formed that continue to this day.
The global financial crisis of 2008 put many businesses to the test worldwide, and Poligroup was no exception. Despite operating well below its capacity, the company withstood the challenges by not only continuing to responsibly meet its commitments, but also taking on new ones, establishing it as a preferred and reliable partner. Thanks to an awarded EU Competitiveness project, a hi-tech recycling line of leading European brands in the machinery industry was installed in 2012. The resilience and flexibility demonstrated by Poligroup, even in turbulent conditions, show the adaptability of the company and the skills of the management to preserve and add to its value in any market environment.
2013 – 2019
This period was marked by unprecedented growth and development. Proven production advantages and the company's established image as an excellent partner, together with new investments towards the implementation of closed-loop production including recycling, have made Poligroup a globally recognized and preferred company. Thanks to active participation in various industry-themed professional events, the partner network expanded with many new customers and suppliers at international level.
Manufacturing processes were upgraded by replacing all equipment with new high-performance machines from leading European and American companies. For this purpose, both own funds and funding from appropriate EU programmes have been used. New manufacturing and warehouse facilities were built and the team is undergoing training to work optimally with the introduced technologies. The new facilities and equipment enable Poligroup to meet the ever-increasing demand with a fourfold increase in production capacity and output volume.
2020 – 2025
The company’s advantages grow. Efforts to operate a closed green production loop continue, with a second recycling line installed. This provides increased capacity to process polyethylene waste to manufacture the required amount of regranulate internally, eliminating the need to source it from external sources. Poligroup began procurement of waste raw materials from all over Europe, establishing its role as a recycler with a closed-loop transparent and efficient operating process.
In addition of the green policy, two water treatment plants were installed in the production facility, reducing the use of fresh water in recycling to a minimum. The company developed energy projects too – PV parks with a total capacity of 12.5 mWh, which contribute to the competitiveness and sustainability of the products. The energy generated is used for own needs, with surpluses being sold on the open market. Poligroup achieved what it has aimed to do since its foundation: environmentally friendly manufacturing process with due respect for nature.
Contracting parties from 12+ countries around the world trust Poligroup as an established recycler and manufacturer of a wide range of polyethylene products with applications in various industries. In the face of dynamic global developments, it continuously adapts its development strategy to meet new realities and ensure its long-term success.
